The G.A.R. Hall was built in 1885, and immediately given to the City of Litchfield to be preserved as a memorial for Civil War Soldiers. The city, in conjunction with the Meeker County Historical Society, has done an excellent job of keeping this facility like it was over a century ago. The Meeker County Museum was added to the rear of the G.A.R. in 1960, and features two floors of displays, newspapers, and other historical items relating to the Prairie beginnings of Meeker County. Our G.A.R. Hall receives compliments from people around the county for it's preservation of the actual facility.  The meeting room features original chairs and other furnishings from 1885, plus many items donated by original G.A.R. Members, their families, friends, and interested historical supporters. The Meeker County Museum has newspapers dating back to 1870, a cabin from 1868, other prairie items, farming tools, blacksmith items, and many other unique things given since 1960.
