Description:
Located in downtown Saint Paul's historic Landmark Center, the Gallery of Wood Art offers an often surprising and always engaging view of contemporary works created in wood. The Gallery of Wood Art also features educational exhibits, a display of vintage lathes, and a gallery gift store offering turned items, books and DVDs.
The gallery offers four to six exhibits a year, and specializes in work created on the lathe, a machine with roots in ancient Egypt. The lathe is traditionally used to create objects like baseball bats, chair legs, bowls, rolling pins and architectural spindles and columns, but is also used by contemporary artists as a tool of expression. Although all pieces on exhibit have been at least partially created on a lathe, the diversity of techniques, subjects, materials and ideas of each artist keeps each exhibit fresh and engaging.
The Gallery of Wood Art also features educational exhibits, a display of vintage lathes, and a gallery gift store featuring local and regional artists.
